About the City of Cologne

The City of Cologne is strongly committed to the topic of diversity. We at Allround Team GmbH have had the pleasure of working with the city on diversity campaigns before, including this one. On the occasion of the International Day for Tolerance, the City of Cologne planned a poster and web campaign in cooperation with the Cologne Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Cologne Police, Kölner Aidshilfe e.V., rubicon e.V., Cologne Pride e.V. and other organizations of Cologne’s LGBTI communities to increase the willingness to report homophobic and transphobic violence.

Collaboration & strategy

The challenge was not only to raise awareness of queer and trans hostility within Cologne, but also to design the campaign in such a way that Cologne residents feel addressed and picked up – and in the best case, to advocate for an even more open and safe environment for all people, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.

In close cooperation with the participating organizations, we developed a comprehensive concept to overcome these challenges and meet our wishes and requirements for the campaign. The focus was on empowering victims and witnesses to report or denounce queer-motivated hate crime and encouraging urban society to take a stand against queer hostility.

To achieve this, we took on the project coordination and management. We set up a website for advertising and filled it with information material, developed claims, designed poster motifs and carried out agreements and printing. Our focus was on getting the message across clearly without polarizing or stigmatizing.

The result

The four poster motifs of the campaign “Anzeigen statt Aushalten – Gemeinsam gegen Queerfeindlichkeit” were displayed throughout Cologne and attracted a great deal of attention. Thanks to the broad support of the participating organizations and the city’s society, we were able to raise awareness of the issue and increase the willingness to report homophobic and trans-hostile violence. This campaign was an important step towards a more inclusive society.
