We specialize in solving problems where human experience meets technology. Find out how we turn your ideas into tangible solutions from the initial concept through continuous optimization.
How do we proceed? As one of many methods used in the design thinking process, Allround Team conducts design sprints with customers from different industries – on site or completely remotely. The methodology, originally developed by Jake Knapp at Google Ventures, pursues the ambitious goal of being able to judge the success of a potential product at an early stage – without lengthy and cost-intensive development processes.
When developing the method, Knapp was looking for an efficient way to shorten the development cycles of new products, quickly generate user feedback and thus give decision-makers the opportunity to assess the success of a product or service. The result was a working concept that was initially used successfully in innovation processes within Google Ventures, but was soon applied in well-known companies around the world. In line with the design-doing mentality, the sprint process is constantly adapted and continuously developed.
The classic design sprint is a workshop format in which an interdisciplinary team from various departments of a company tackles a challenge together over five intensive days. The result of the process is not just a concept for a possible product, but an initial prototype that has already been tested and through which valuable user feedback is collected.
The prototypes in the design sprint process do not pursue the goal of demonstrating the entire functional spectrum of a product as an MVP (minimum viable product), but rather fulfill the guiding purpose of giving users an impression of the potential product in a short time and enabling them to gain knowledge. To this end, after a two-day workshop phase and subsequent prototyping, the design sprint culminates in a day of user tests in which the concept is validated and concrete next steps for product development can be derived.
The design sprint relies on working principles that are specially tailored to the intensive innovation processes – sprints, in the truest sense of the word. The entire process is divided into short time windows; only a limited time is set aside for each of the short process steps, which a timer in the (in times of COVID-19 also digital) room constantly reminds you of. As the supposed final enemy of innovation processes and progress, traditional meeting situations are avoided wherever possible. Never-ending discussions are replaced by working according to the “together-alone” principle: everyone works on the same task at the same time, but alone. Everything worked out in this way is always physically represented in the room so that nothing floats in the air except words surrounded by a wide variety of interpretations (principle: “Tangible Beats Discussion”). Subsequent decision-making processes are simplified, structured and visualized (principle: “Note-Stick-Vote”).
As a process designed to get from problem definition to real user feedback in the shortest possible time, we guide our customers in a structured and step-by-step manner to the goal of successful product development in the Design Sprint.
